Have swollen eyes on itching. Had petted cat. Took Antihistamine. Suggestions?

I just petted my neighbors cat and itched my eye and my eyes are swollen. I have 3 cats of my own and I am fine after petting them. I don t understand why this happened. I took a allergy antihistamine and have used eye drops, and drove with my window down to get back home away from the animal. The swelling is starting to go down a little. should I do anything else?

You must 2 (two) antihistamine tablets Cetirizine 10mg or levocet 5mg in an acute allergic episode. Eye drops such as olopatonol 2 drops three times a day will also help if antihistamines are not enough.

It is possible that you are desensitized to cats given that you have cats yourself, but it is best you get the cat specific IgE levels (plus the extended aeroallergen panel) done to exclude the allergies.
Cat allergy can be a very difficult condition to keep under control due to the nature of the allergen, and ensure you do not start developing airways disease (asthma) due to this.

Best Wishes.
