Have spots between knee, foot, have white center red periphery, painful touching. What is it?

My wife has three spots on her left leg half way between her knee and foot on the outer side of her leg. They presented two days ago and in the last 24 hours have become worse. They have white color in the center mixed with red and are red on their perimeter, they are relatively flat, painful to the touch and pain is also present down her leg. What are some of the possibilities? I know there are very many.

Welcome to health care magic
From your description it looks like boils(furuncle). It is a bacterial infection of hair follicle. Usually trauma like scratching, shaving, waxing, insect bite etc can trigger an attack. It can even be spontaneous. You can do warm compresses which will decrease pain and swelling and helps drain the pus. You need to apply an antibiotic cream like mupirocin2% thrice a day over the boil. A course of oral antibiotics also will help for which you need a prescription. For the pain she can take paracetamol or diclofenac tablets.
Hope this helped
Take care
