Have Hives All Over The Face. So Itchy, Red. Dr Tells It Is Eczema. Taking Pms-desonide Increases The Itch. Recommendations?

Since last year, I've been getting hives all over my face. After I take a shower, my face would always show it. It is always so itchy, red and you can see a patch of red skin that juts out, which I believe are hives. I've been to my doctor, but he believes it is just my eczema so he has prescribed me some medicated lotion (pms-desonide cream 0.05%) and pills if my face gets uncontrollably itchy (hydroxyzine hcl). But since then I've been using the lotion a lot and I'm worried that I'm using it too much on my face... Especially on my eyelids since I've read on the internet that I shouldn't be using it too much. I want to find out if this is really eczema or is it something that I am allergic to? I don't want to keep on using the lotion on my face nor taking the pills. I am also wondering if I should go see an allergist to test what I may be allergic to? Thanks for your help!!!

Welcome to HCM.Using skin ointment/cream near or around the eyes is to be avoided,it would be better to use a eye ointment to avoid any eye injury .Steroids should be used sparingly ,it would be prudent to consult a dermatologist and a Allergist for this problem. You need to be tested for common allergens by a prick test, use of nonsedating antihistaminics like Fexofenadrine/Loratidine and immunomodulator like Tacrolimus/Picrolimus may be tried instead of the steroids. Hot showers may also provoke urticaria/hives,the pressure of the shower may also cause the rash and needs to be avoided..
