Have Had Recurrent Sciatic Pain. Had Microdiscectomy. On Nurontin And Supplements Like Collagen. Is It Sufficient?

I had a microdisctectomy 3 months ago. Felt great intitially but have had recurrent sciatic pain, which has jumped to the next level. MRI showed scar tissue etc. Dr says he can operate, but has put me on nurontin. Has helped a little. Will this improve, wil TENS machine help with pain and further scarring, i s back surgery the best option and if I can prepare for this one with supplements like collagen and Vit C etc, help with next scarring? Am new to this don't know what the chances are? Thanks for any info/tips.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

If your new MRI shows disc bulge with nerve compression then surgery may help.
Due to compression of this nerve root there is tingling numbness in your leg and pain associated with it.

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and TENS therapy will help
.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.

If nerve compression becomes severe later on then surgical decompression will give better relief.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
