I recently had an x-ray for a fractured rib, the report stated a fracture of 9th rib, left side. Also stated was a mild unfolding of the aorta . Heart is not enlarged, lungs are clear. My grandmother had problems with her aorta so now my mother is freaking out. Can you pleae explain in mor detail so as to my my mother at ease. I will be 59 in September 2013. Thanking you, Gaynor.

Hi welcome to health care magic forum. Ninth rib fracture usually will not involve the aorta, so it must be a congenital change of the aorta. As it is not showing any cardiac symptoms so long for 58 years, you need not expect any such changes here after.
Still if you are perticular you can consult a cardiologist , for further evaluation, of course you may not find any thing negative about aorta.
Try to avoid hard work, to avoid rib pain and associated refered pain inthe chest. Also avoid spices, chillies, junk foods, and oily foods to avoid gastric irritation and associated refered pain of the chest.
Wishing for a quick recovery and thanks for calling.
