Have diabetes. Angiography shows blocks in heart. Can bypass surgery be done?
HELLO SIR, I AM FROM VANIYAMBADI .FROM THE LAST 3 MONTHS MY FATHER HEALTH IS ILL AND HE IS A DIABETIC PATIENT FROM 7 YEARS .FROM LAST 3 MONTH HE WAS VERY SICK AND WE CONSULT WITH A DDOCTOR IN CHENNAI AND HE TOLD THAT HE WAS SUFFER FROM HEART DISEASE AND TOLD TO TAKE ANGIOGRAPHY .LAST WEEK WE TAKE THE ANGIOGRAPH AND THE RESULT WAS HE HAS 3 BLOCKS .IAM ASKING THAT CAN WE DO THE BYPASS.

According to the new guidelines, the decision to perform CABG must be based on symptoms, left ventricular function, and severity of coronary disease and specific contraindications for a bypass surgery include
1... Absence of a viable myocardium in the area supplied by stenosed artery.
2... Presence of coexisting severe noncardiac conditions with a poor prognosis.
These are just the guidelines otherwise this decision should be left on your cardiologist.
Discuss with your doctor about the pros and cons.

Depending on the percentage of each block,cardiologists advise for by-pass or stenting of the arteries.If your heart doctor advises by-pass it may be indicated.Diabetes has to be under control with medications but is not a contraindication against by-pass.Most of elderly heart patiets are diabetic and they do undergo by-pass under control of diabetes by medicines.So consult for it aswell.
