Have Been Suggested Renal Biopsy For Proteinuria. What Is Your Suggestion?

My 13 yr old daughter has had anoreixia and high presence of protein in urine for the past 3 years. Evry single urine test done shows high level of protein in urine, even the first morning samples. She had a series of complicated blood tests and ultrasound done a couple years ago, which all came back normal. But since the protenuria continues to be a concern, the nephrologist wants her to undergo more tests at this time, also suggesting a renal biopsy. She has no signs or symptoms, other than the proteinuria.

What are we to do? And what do we expect? We are distraught. Please advise. Thank you

Hi,

As other blood and urine tests came out to be normal except for proteinuria, renal biopsy was advised by your doctor. There are many reasons of proteinuria, some of them are due to glomerular system abnormality. Biopsy of the kidney will help in finding the cause and treatment will be based on it. There may be auto- immune cause, for which steroids can be given.
