Have Basal Carcinoma On Nose, Scheduled To Have Mohs Surgery. Anything To Look Further?
Hi, I am looking into having a body scan to detect skin cancer and to have a good dermatologist. What do you know about Estero dermatology and Skin Surgery center? i am from Canada and found out i have a basal carcinoma on the nose and am scheduled to have a mohs surgery in canada in Dec. But i want to know if i have anything more that i need to look after. i am here until Dec 4 and then back to Florida Jan 4. i would like to have a good dermatologist here as well as i don't get body scans done in canada. Hello and welcome to HCM, Basal cell cancer is a malignant cancer but it does not spread to distant sites. So, you can do without body scan to detect skin cancer at distant sites. Basal cell carcinoma spreads locally but distant spread is very uncommon. Mohs surgery is sufficient at first instance. After surgery it is important to know the status of the margins and depth of the cancer. The Mohs surgery involves removal of tumor and a rim of surrounding involved skin. Complete removal of the lesion is curative. However, basal cell carcinoma is known to recur so you need to remain vigilant for development of any new lesion especially on the face. In case, you develop any new lesion on any body part, report to your doctor/ dermatologist at the earliest.
