My husband (age 60) has a hydrocele on the left side. He saw his urologist 8 days ago, and had an ultrasound. The doctor was on vacation this week, and meanwhile the hydrocele, which was hard and firm, has softened--but only because it appears to have expanded to the skin below his penis.
It's about the size of a grapefruit, and very uncomfortable. When does it become an emergency?
