Has Increased Dosage Of Levothyroxine Sodium From 60 To 150 Mcg Caused Bizarre Behavior?
Levothyroxine Sodium 150 mcg, my fiance took this for a week and a half. It was upped from his regular dose of 60 mcg. He started talking out of his head about stuff from 20 to 30 years ago. He has been diagnosed with depression and takes meds for it. On 12/09/16 he had a 3 minute seizure, went to the er and the doc stated that lab work verified the seizure. He has stopped this med and went back to the 60mcg. He is still altered saying he is crazy and still talking out of his head. Could this medicine have caused this? What should he do about being altered (his doc has refused to see him)? Thank You!
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
It is very unlikely that the increased dose of Levothyroxine has contributed to your fiancé’s current psychiatric symptoms. It looks like he is having a psychotic episode. Levothyroxine is normally increased based on the TSH level; it looks like your fiancé’s TSH was quite high, hence the dose was increased to more than double. I would advise you to see a psychiatrist who would thoroughly assess him and treat him. I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you
