Has Had Hives, ADHD. Positive Strep Test. On Keflex. Are We Missing On Anything?

My son has had hives for the last 6 months (currently on Allegra 2x day, but still have break through hives), positive strep test in Dec and Jan (along with intensified OCD, over emotion and irritable behavior) and today received lab results of ASO of 457 and Anti dNase 888. 2 weeks ago the above behavior resurfaced again out the blue both at home an at school. The rapid strep test and culture were negative but the doc still started him on Keflex due to past strep in Dec and Jan and hives continuing. We have 3 doses of Keflex left and not much important in the OCD, irritability and emotions. He has been diagnosed with Sensory and ADHD but everything has been under control the last few months. Waiting the doctor to call back and I am assuming more antibiotics. But I am the one who suggested the labs and the doc researched and agreed. Just want to make sure we are no missing anything.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Continue the medication for hives and ADHD as prescribed by his doctors.

Look for any associated allergen which is causing recurrent hives.

Some time OCD is aggravated by streptococcal infections and it is know as PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infection).

So I would like to consider this possibility as OCD aggravated by streptococcal infection.

So consult your pediatrician and psychiatrist for further management.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
