Hardened Facial Artery Forming Large Lump Under Jaw Line Causing Intense Pain, History Of Amyloidosis. What Could It Be And Its Treatment?

My 88 year old father-in-law has a hardened facial artery that goes into a large lump under his jaw line. He has had a lot of pain with it. He went to the doctor but we don t know what this condition is called to look it up. Unfortunately, none of us went with him to hear the doctor s explanation and of course he can t remember. They were going to biopsy it but did an ultrasound first and found it to be his artery. He has a history of amyloidosis as a complication from Waldenstrom s macroglobulinemia. Can you suggest a few things it might be so we can look it up and know what to expect? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to Health care magic forum. As you describe it appears to be seconday to amaloidosis.
Here the proteines are deposited into the facial artery { usually any organ } Treatment is paliative only.
if the arterioles of the facial artery are enough to the opposite side, effected arter maybe terminated.
If satisfied with paliative treatment he can continue on it. He may need to get colour doppler test
for confermation of the position.
Besides i advise you to follow some diet recomendations as avoid taking pulses nonvegetarian foods
controle the oil consumption. take more of green leafy vegetables fruits and juices. Wishing for a quick
recovery and thanks for calling.
