Hard, Red Warm Lump Inches Above The IV Site, Still Sore. Anything To Worry ?

I was in the hospital Thurs and Fri and had an IV in right arm. Sat/Sun I noticed a hard, red warm lump a couple inches above the IV site which is still sore. Saw urgent care yesterday and they though cellulitis? put me on 2 antibiotics but said go straight to ER if got any worse. The redness has disappaited but the lump is extending up to inside of elbow now. Is this really something that potentially serious? I read a lot of scary things on line but generally don't fill too bad. But achy a lot.

i advise you to complete the course of antibiotics

take some painkiller as well

Hi,
It seems that you might be having Thrombophlebitis or some soft tissue infection due to extravasation of blood in surrounding tissue.
Continue with antibiotics.
Take anti-iflammatory medicines as well.
You can apply Thrombophob cream or ice pack locally after consulting your doctor.
Ok and take care.
