Hard Red Bumps On The Hairline. Sores Are Painful. Used Genta Cream, Hibiclens, T-gel. Suggestion?

Hi Doc, I am a paramedic, been in the field 35 years now. My question is in reference to my scalp. My hair line has rapidly gotten higher. I ware a hat during my shift. Over the last few years I develop hard, red, bumps on my hairline. Mainly in the back and where my hat band lays. The sores are very painful, don't have discharge, tend to crust. I scrape the scabs off. They also tend to get grossly swollen fairly quickly. I've tried all topical tx including
genta cream, hibiclens, T-gel, It also tends to get worse when I let my hair grow longer. Now I almost have pitted tracks along the area. It feels almost like a lack. Please help

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic,

As per your query you have hard red bumps on the hairline which are sore and painful.
As per the history I can get it appears to be due to continuous friction of the hat. Due to friction our skin gets thickened and it leads to blockage of the normal pores. This leads to formation of bumps at that particular site.

For the betterment kindly follow the below:
- Do not scratch any skin lesion or even try to touch unnecessarily. This is the most important part in your treatment.

-Apply over the counter calamine lotion 3-4 times a day.

-You can do cold water compresses to reduce the intensity of itching.

-stay away from hot and humid climate.

-You can take oral anti histamine like loratadine or levocetrizine round the clock under medial advise.

- You can apply Fluticasone or mometasone cream under dermatological guidance.

Despite above measures if the things are not better then it is better to consult a dermatologist for the best guidance.

Hope to have provided the helpful informations regarding your problem.
With good health wishes"
