How Can Swelling On The Thumb Be Treated?

Hand injury - obvious swelling at base of thumb. No discoloration. Thumb knuckle and fingers move without pain, swiveling thumb at base hurts, lifting light weight with fingers in a curling motion sends pain up wrist. Icing, wondering about Dr. visit tomorrow.

Hi,

In your case, a small fracture cannot be ruled out so I would like an X-ray first. In the meantime, I would suggest painkillers and a thumb splint restrict movements.
