Hair Loss Due To TB. Taken DOTS Medicine. Using Mintop. Effective If Temporarily Discontinued?

Hi Doctor, I have been suffering by hair loss since 2004. at that time I suffered by the T.B disease I did the 6 month course of DOTs medicine and got well after that the hair fall problem started. I am using Mintop 2% & a tab of 1mg which was suggested by the dermatologist I visited. Due to travelling I discontinue the process. Will it be effective on my problem .

Hello,

From the information that you have given.It seem that your hairs are going through 'Telogen effluvium'. This is a normal phenomenon that is seen in many patients who have TB and who are on DOTS therapy or have completed it.

Your dermatologist have prescribed the right treatment with minoxidil.I would also usually advice my patients to take multivitamin tablet which is rich in iron, Vit C, Vit B12 and biotin.You have to continue using this treatment for atleast 3-6months to see the complete effects. Skipping the treatment for some days wont do any harm.So i would suggest you restart your treatment and use it regularly.
