Had Unprotected Sex. Tender Breasts, Cramps. Taken Plan B. Sounds Like?

Hello!

I had unprotected sex on June 22. I was on my period at the time, and to be safe I took the PlanB one-step pill within the 72 hours. My period continued for a couple days. After it stopped, within the next week I had about one or two days of very light spotting. On August 29, when I was ovulating, the condom broke again, and my boyfriend ejaculated inside of me. Panicking, I took PlanB again. Now it is September 6, over 35 days since I've seen any blood. Is there a possibility that I am pregnant, or is the drug severely messing with my body? Last week, my face broke out (which it normally does the week before my period), and this week I am cramping and have slightly tender breasts. I feel as though my period could come at anytime, but I also know that pregnancy symptoms and period symptoms are very similar. Please let me know what to do. I am very scared. Thank you.

Any hormonal contraceptive can alter the natural cycle of hormones that constitute a normal menstrual cycle. This is especially true if emergency contraceptive hormones are used. The delicate balance of a woman's normal menstrual cycle is disrupted. The hormones in birth control are five times stronger than the hormones used in estrogen replacement therapy used during menopause symptom treatment. The birth control hormones themselves may cause symptoms that are confused with pregnancy, just because of the strengths used. Cramping, lack of bleeding, breast tenderness, and nausea may all occur with use of these hormones.
The best approach in this instance is to take a home pregnancy test approximately two weeks after the episode of intercourse. Most urine pregnancy tests are positive ten days after conception. If not pregnant, menstrual cycles usually regulate to normal within 2-3 cycles after discontinuing hormonal contraception.
I hope this helps answer your question and calms your fears. Emergency contraception is very effective and pregnancy is not likely. I am available if you have further questions.
