Had unprotected sex. Paranoid. Taken yasmin. Risks?

I started taking Yasmin for the first time 5 days ago. I took it the night of the day that my period started. Nine at night. the next days I took it every night. The times were not nine every day. it varied from Nine to twelve at night. When will it be safe for me to have unprotected sex without the risk of getting pregnant. I m very paranoid about these things.

Thanks for writing to us.
Since you are taking the pill regularly everyday, you are protected against pregnancy. Taking the pill at different times within a range of three hours does not affect the pill efficacy. Please do not worry. You can have unprotected sex.

General & Family Physician Dr. Das Arindam's  Response
Sep 2012
Hello, Welcome to HCM, I am Dr. Das

look, yasmin is an oral contraceptive agent containing estrogen and progesterone derivatives.

So, it prevents pregnancy when taken continuously for 21 days starting from the day of menstruation. here the the time of taking the medicine is important. Generally, we advice to take the medicine before going to bed.

In your case, it is alright. There is no issue regarding the timne of taking the medicine. Now, you are able to have unprotected sex without any tension for this menstrual cycle.

So, do not worry.
