Had Throat Irritation, Cold In Chest, Have Phlegm. Drinking Hot Water. Is It Some Serious Illness?

Hi
i had a throat irritation for months then suddenly i got severe cold in chest after i drink lemon in cold drinks continuously for 3 days. then i was coughing but it was quite normal. suddenly one night when i cough the couldn't end up and my throat closed i couldn't breath at all it turned like a wheezing but from the throat. i have never had a wheezing in my past. my husband gave me his nabulizer 5 -6 times and drank a hot water then i was able to breath a bit but at the end i was trying to release gas through my throat. after it came out i felt quite OK. we rushed to hospital doctor checked orally and said i have no wheezing no need for nabulizer and he prescribed some antibiotics and cough syrup with tablets for phlegm. now i am almost going to complete my antibiotic also i experienced the same trouble everyday during sleep i wake up with severe cough ended up with shortness of breath in throat and lately will release gas from throat. now the cough and phlegm is reduced but again my phlegm was green during the mid and now it has changed to white thin foamy phlegm is coming out when i cough. it similar to saliva. i am very much worried whether it is due to antibiotics or any other serious illness.

much appreciated if answered asap.... please help

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
As your husband is using nebulizer i.e.he is an asthmatic patient.
I am sorry to say that you too developed same symptoms more or less according to your history of illness,
Wheezing , whistling, sore throat , breathlessness ( particularly in the night during sleep), all are an indication of bronchial asthma or initial stage of allergic bronchitis.
Cough develops due to infection as in your case there was sore throat from months and you ignored it.
As far as concerned about phlegm ,this is due to infection , color of phlegm indicates type of bacterial infection or viral or fungus .
Usually green phlegm may be due to fungus as well bacterial infection.
Sputum examination is very helpful, so get it done.
In my opinion get in an X ray of chest and M R I if doctor advise (after X ray) and consult a PUlmonologist and get his opinion as this disease is from months ( according to your query).
Good luck. Dr. HET
