Had Stress Fracture To Fibula. Swelling In Ankle, Pain, Burning. How Long To Heal?

So in May I got a stress fracture to my fibula and
suspected slight tear to the fibularis peroneus brevis
tertius. So to the tendon and muscle. Anyway, there was,
right away swelling in that area, high ankle/lower leg and
there is still swelling. Minimal pain, but burning quite often.

I wear a sleeve and try to stay off my leg as much as
possible, but I was curious. It's been 3 months. Should
this have been healed by now or how long do you think
it will take.

Thank you for your time.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

A stress fracture of fibula heals spontaneously without any issues.

Even the soft tissue injury (muscle & tendon) should have healed by this time.

As you are still experiencing some symptoms at the injured site, an MRI scan of the involved area will detect all the soft tissue lesions.

So, I suggest you to consult your treating doctor and discuss the issues.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
