Hello,
Thanks for contacting HCM with your problem. You mention
that your gallbladder was removed 4 years ago. I am not sure if
had any recent blood tests done , especially liver tests such as
Bilirubin, Alkaline Phosphatase , LDH,SGOT,GGT, SGPT, etc.
If these are very abnormal , then we would think of recurrent
stones in the bile duct or the channel that carries the bile now
directly to the intestine. Itching does indicate excess bile salt
in circulation. That is the reason the doctor is trying the drug
Actigall. I think you need to have further testing done which
may include ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography)
Study the bile duct and pancreatic ducts. You may also need a
liver biopsy to rule out Biliary Cirrhosis. (Primary or autoimmune).
There are special blood tests for that as well. Discuss these with your
doctor. There is also another drug called Chenodeoxycholic acid).
I wish you well.
