My name is Abduly karim I have a 1.6 years son. three day ago he showed a sign of high fever about 38 - 39.6C. I administered him panadol junior and temperate reduced gradual. The following morning, that on Sunday his condition worsen and I had to take him to the doctor. he was given anti Malaria does and vitamin B-co. I thought that that will improve his condition but still that evening the temperature rose again. since it was in the night we had to give something to reduce temperature. my wife again gave him Panadol Junior.
The problem is that my son is condition seems unstable the temperature keeps on rising for sometime and the when given carpol or Panadol junior seems to reduce only for a short period and the hit high. Moreover he has now diarrhea and he refuses to eat.
What is the problem with my son and what do I have to do?

Dear Abduly karim thanks for posting your query on Healthcare Magic
Fever in this age group can be due to many conditions but common are viral infections, diarrhea(enteritis or gastroenteritis), malaria, dengue, Typhoid etc. Fever require evaluation and must be treated according to cause. Most viral illnesses are self limiting require its own time.
Other aspect to deal with fever in this age group is to control temperature directly because high temperature is definitely harmful to child and sometime leads to fits what we call it febrile seizures. Do not panic control temperature with the help of medication and cold sponging all over body by completely exposing (may cause discomfort to child). Do Not cover him by blanket.
Treatment of diarrhea may or may not require antibiotics BUT correction of fluid level (hydration) is mandatory. Please pay attention to it.
To understand the child's problem you need to consult pediatrician and keep close watch on ability to accept feed, able to pass urine, activity, alertness, fits etc these are red flag signs if present require hospitalization immediately
I hope my advice may help you. Take care
