Had Ankle Surgery, Cold Sensation, Painful, Swelling. What Has Happened?

I had ankle surgery about seven years ago and had a plate and three screws put in my leg. No major problems Of course it still swells everyday, have pain in it (not everyday) and have that cold feeling. But on Monday, I walked 18 holes of golf and now I can barely walk. My ankle is swoll very badly, can't put pressure on it and it is painful. Is it possible that something has happened or is it possible that if I did not have on a good pair of support shoes this has caused the problem?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.

If excessive swelling develops, you may need to stay off the foot and elevate the foot more frequently or for a longer period of time. The continued use of compressive bandages, oral or injectable medications, longer periods of non-weight bearing, inactivity or time off work or school may be necessary to treat swelling.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
