Had A Finger Amputation. Greenish Discharge. Cleaned With Hydrogen Peroxide. Need To Get Checked?

Hello
I recently had an amputation on my right hand of the middle finger. The last knuckle and finger bone are removed. (so the first knuckle up so no finger nail ect.) Anyways I changed the3 bandage today and noticed some green fluid or what appeared to be puss around part of the wound. I went after it removing the puss the best I could with a set of tweezers and H2O2 (hydrogenproxyde). I re bandaged it with antibacterial ointment,. Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The presence of greenish fluid/pus indicate the presence of infection in the amputation site.
It is appreciative that you cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide & re bandaged with antibacterial ointment.

However, a microscopic examination of the green fluid should be carried out to identify the organism responsible for the infection.
Antibiotic therapy needs to be initiated based upon subsequent culture & sensitivity reports.

So, it will be better to consult your treating Doctor once & get the wound examined.
As any delay might lead to further spread of the infection.

Wishing you a good health.
Thanks & take care.
