Had A Colostomy Reversal. Colon Removed , Have Temp Colosotmy. Took Milk Of Magnesia. Started Having Diarrhea. Treatment?

I had a colostomy reversal 5 weeks ago, I had 6 inches of my colon removed due to diverticulitis and had a temp colosotmy, my doctor said what ever I do do not get constapated, I took milk of magnesia yesterday morning, which seem to work fine, but then started having diarrea about noon time, now every time I drink anything, water or decafinnated ice tea, I am going to the bathroom. Should I worry about dehaydration, what should I eat and when should I seek medical treatment for this?

Hi thanks for your question.
Diarrhea you developed could be due to excessive use of milk of magnesia. There is nothing to worry, withhold the dose of milk of magnesia till diarrhea settles down. Take plenty of oral fluids. Medical advice is necessary in case you cannot cope up with dehydration with oral fluids; visit the ER, so that you may get re hydration with I/ V fluids. They may also prescribe you treatment for Diarrhea, which will get settled down of itself slowly.
