Grey hair in babys head. Vitamin deficiency? Recommendations?

Hello Dr.

Yesterday I noticed a white hair in my 13 months daughter's head! and since then I am worried and concerned about it may not increase in numbers. Do you think this is "normal" in babies ? and why this has occurred. I also read somewhere that it happens due to lack of vitamin B12. Is she B12 deficient or is it being passed from me since I am Brest-feeding her.

Please help me out.

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Do not worry about that one white hair.

It does not mean any thing.

It is not passed in breast milk or any thing like that.

Please do not worry and relax.

It is not due to deficiency of any vitamins etc.

Take care.

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response

Thank you for your query.

Grey hair are not due to any deficiency of any vitamin. Presence of one grey hair on your daughter's head does not mean anything. You should relax and not worry about it.

Absence of black pigment (melanin) is the cause of grey hair.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter all the best.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Thanks for your query.
Premature greying of hair could be due to
Hereditary factor.
Vitamin deficiency
infection of scalp.

I suggest you to give her balanced diet rich in vitamins, iodine, iron and proteins on daily basis.
Give fruits,green leafy vegetables,dairy products.
Massage her hair with oil during night and then wash in morning,do it on alternate days.

If problem persist get her examined by dermatologist.

God bless..
