Greenish stools, abdominal pain, irregular bowel movements. Any suggestions?

Hello, I am a young woman with no health problems, NKA or any remarkable health history. For about a week now, all of a sudden, I ve been having what I assume is diarrhea . However, the stool is the same - greenish, flaky, watery, crumbly. I have abdominal pains that come and go, but I feel it more often in my upper abdomen . There is a sudden urgency to go when I have to, it seems to come from nowhere. My eating habits/drinking habits have not changed for a few years, so I do not believe it to be food-related. The only thing I can really say is that prior to this, I only have a BM every couple days, but I have never had a problem with them even though I eat normally and do get fiber into my diet . Any suggestions? Thank you so much for your time and help.

Hello,

In the absence of possible food-induced green stools, there is a strong possibility of viral infection of the GIT.

My guidelines at present
- stool microscopy report in the lab
- plenty of liquids
- probiotics with Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces boulardii will help great till definite management with GI antibiotics as metronidazole or else as per the choice of your GP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon

I am 61 years old, I have had abdominal pain for about 5 months now and diagnosed initially with a fecal impaction. All labwork has been perfectly normal but had three trips to the ER for abdominal discomfort. No vomiting and very little nausea. Starting to gain my appetite back but bowel movements are irregular. My doctor has reassured me there is no need for worry but I am not getting any better on Protonix. Can you give me some feedback on this?

Hi, I have been suffering with severe abdominal pains for a few years now that are getting worse and more frequent. The pain starts in the upper abdomin and moves around to my back and i feel great pressure on my chest. Pain killers dont help, all I can do is pace the room for hours and sometimes shower because the heat relieved the pain slightly. I used to get the pains maybe once evey few weeks but in december 2009 they began to get a lot worse. I had many visits to the doctors who thought maybe it was acid so I started a treatment for that which did not help. After weeks of agonising pain and missing work the doctor refered me to a specialist to check for an ulcer. This test came back negative and they suggested I have an ultra sound. The ultra sound showed some stones in my gallbladded and i had it removed in March 2010. Thankfully the pains went away but started back again in December 2010. I got them maybe once every two weeks. after christmas things got a lot worse, i started getting the pains every day and every night, waking me from a deep sleep and sometimes causing me to vomit. I went to the emergancy room where i had bloods done and an ultra sound. everything came back fine. i then had a CT which also came back fine. followed by urine and stool tests and an MRI which also came back normal. finaly I had an EUS to check for stones in the bile duct which again, came back normal. the doctors are completely stumped and have now diagnosed me with IBS. Eventhough I do not have irregular bowel movements?? I have not slept a full night in months and just want some answers ive tried giving up dairy, carbs etc and nothing is workin. i keep a food dary but cannot see a pattern. I take anti spasm tablets to try relieve the pain but they only seem to be taking th edge off it and its usually too late by the time I take them because the attacks are the most painful at the beginning. Does anyone have any ideas or answers??

I m not sure what this means.

My Father has suffered paralysis stroke in 2005. The doctor has prescribed Ecosprin 150Mg and Amlophin (for B.P.) to be taken daily. But after 1 year, my father stopped them taking regularly and whenver he had high BP he is taking both the tablets.Yesterday he had fever and today loose motions. The BP was high 200/80 and discomfort and aches. A little bit of discomfort near chest... but not sure as he is bit confused. Could it be due to fever or should be contact emergency?

11 years ago- colonoscopy: found nothing, declared diarrhea to be due to ibs. Eliminated triggers: dairy, caffiene, high fat. For years- saving grace was carbs. BUT I still had bouts of diarrhea and was never really normal. (Note: stomach was always flat, unless I overate and bm would quickly shrink back stomach). December 2009- bad abdominal pains: ultrasounds found a bunch of cysts but my doc. said they are not large enough to be causing pain. Weight: 128. (Note: highest in 15 years.) Big Change... Feb 2010- people are telling me i look really skinny. Stepped on scale, 120 pounds (lowest weight in 15 years). Horrible stomach distention and pain, No matter what I eat or drink. when I wake up stomach is somewhat flat, but still pudgy. After ingesting anything, it balloons, 2-3 months pregnant / no relief. Tests: Blood- protein levels off, low iron and b12, celiac test just a little off (but not true indicator that I have the disease, I am told). Colonscopy / endoscopy- biospy for celiac (negative). Found mast cells- h2 allergy cells, which dr said was strange . Said I must just have ibs, and told me to take pepcid for mast cells, but didn t address why I have them. 2nd opinnion- gastroenterolgist said he would have said celiac, but saw biopsy was negative. He was about to dismiss me as ibs and give me pills. Then when I inquired about the mast cells, only then did he actually read my report (and his eyes bulged). He said it appears I might have colitis and put me on pepto for 2 months- then I should call him to give update. Skin allergy test- minor (level 1) only allergic to corn, walnuts and celery, significant (level 2) fish allergies- I don t even eat fish though Please help!! I feel like i m wasting away, and stomach is always in pain and bloated. I am forced to associate eating with pain now. I went off gluetin for 1 week, and didn t notice results but then ate it again when biopsy was negative. I am planning to go off it again for as long as I can, on my own accord. I feel it is the only hope I have now, but it will be hard because I can t eat any milk product, and high fat foods (beacuse of the ibs) hurt my stomach so I have to eat in moderation.
