Got Cut On Knuckle, Part Below Index Finger Swollen, Painful Thumb. What Should Be Done?

I got a cut on the knuckle of my index finger yesterday. It was bleeding for couple minutes and then it stopped when i applied pressure. I washed the cut and applied neosporin ointment before sleeping. In the morning i saw that the part below my index finger was swollen and my thumb feels little painful. What should i do.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us,

There is possibility of lacerated wound which may need surgical opinion,so its better to consult doctor and start treatment accordingly.

Some medication like anti-inflammatory and analgesic will reduce pain, you can take them consulting your treating doctor.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

DEAR PATIENT,
WELCOME TO THIS FORUM
WHENEVER YOU HAVE A CUT, YOU SHOULD PROPERLY WASH IT,APPLY PRESSURE SO THAT THE BLEEDING STOPS,THEN CLEAN THE WOUND WITH DILUTED BETADINE,THEN YOU CAN APPLY A CREAM CONTAINING MUPIROCIN......YOU WILL DEFINITELY BE RELIEVED.
YOUR FINGER IS SWOLLEN CAUSE IT IS INFLAMMED AND YOU WILL HAVE OTHER SIGNS OF INFLAMMATION SUCH AS REDNESS,INCREASE TEMPERATURE IN THAT AREA,PAIN AND IN YOUR CASE DIFFICULTY IN MOVING YOUR FINGER.
YOU APPLY THE ABOVE CREAM ,YOUR SWELLING SHOULD SUBSIDE.
IF IT DOES NOT AND YOU FEEL THE PAIN IS INCREASING,I SUGGEST YOU START ON ANTIBIOTICS.
GOOD LUCK
