Hello Neha,

Your baby is on lactogen feeds and some amount of expressed breast milk. As you mentioned she is currently 3.5 months old.

The reason for your breast milk not being sufficient for your baby is because she is not sucking at the breast. The more a baby sucks at the breast the more is the milk production. If the baby is not sucking at the breast the body decreases the milk production. Its like a supply and demand situation. You must be giving lactogen through a bottle. When a baby feeds from a bottle they have to use very minimal effort for sucking. It is more of passive feeding. Where as for breast feeding they have to actively and vigorously suck. So those babies who are bottle fed find it difficult to breast feed, something known as nipple confusion. I would recommend that you start giving her feeds by spoon and make her suck at the breast every time she is hungry (even at night). Gradually you decrease the amount of lactogen and as she starts breas feeding your milk production will increase. Inverted nipples are also a reason a baby finds it difficult to breast feed. If that is the case i advice you to visit a physician who will teach you syringing technique.

But if your child was initially attaching and feeding from the breast and has recently stopped doing so, besides the above steps also look for oral thrush(white coating) and oral ulcers.

You can also try taking galact granules or satavarex powder with milk to increase lactation.

Hope that helps.
Wishing you good luck.

Regards,
Dr.Preeti
