hi doctor,i had a dog bite 1 year earlier i.e. in 2015 and i took full 5 doses of rabipur. In January 2016 i again was bitten by a street dog and took 2 booster doses of rabipur. Yesterday by mistake my trousers came in touch with a dog. I am not sure of the contact so if i m scratched tell me if i have to take another vaccine or not please
Hi & Welcome. Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Following a full course of 4-5 doses of Rabipurvaccineantibodies are produced and that protect a person against rabies infection. The effectiveness of the vaccination is said to be as long the rabies antibody level in blood is above is 0.5 IU/mL. This can continue for at least 2 years after vaccination course. Vaccine-induced immunity persists in most cases for years, a booster would be recommended only if rabies virus neutralizing antibody titres fall to However in event of another exposure (dog bite) taking 2 booster doses is suggested. Since you are not sure whether you had a scratch or something else, it is better to take 2 booster doses on day 0 and 3. Hope this solves your problem.
