Foe How Long Do Codeine Withdrawal Symptoms Remain?

Hi, I ve been taking codeine-( 300mg acetaminophen,15 mg caffeine and 8 mg codeine phosphate caplets) for about 2 months now and I take two every 4 hours. About 8 pills a day to treat severe back pain. I ve recently gone off it cold turkey and replaced with extra strength acetaminophen. I am experiencing some withdrawal symptoms, diarrhea, cramps, headaches, anxiety and an overall unwell feeling. How long can I expect this to last?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, welcome to HCM. First of all You are physically dependent upon codeine. you should not have attempted to stop codiene without the supervision of a trained medical professional. The immediate cessation of codeine have lead to withdrawal effects. You should stop these codiene type of drugs by slowly tapering the dose. start again to stop these withdrawal symptoms. once all symptoms settled down, then start the tapering treatement with the sugesstion from physician you can do . All the best .Get free from codiene soon and have good health.
