Flat feet since childhood. Had a sprain. Permanent solution for the pain?

Hello doctor, my husband has been having flat feet since childhood, but his pain in the feet started 10 years back, and has been using custom made orthotics for support. He has been having pain on and off, until recently he slipped on the stairs and had a sprain , but no fracture on x-ray. He was prescribed medicine for the inflammation 2 weeks back, but his pain still persists, to the extent that he is not able to walk even a few steps. Is there any permanent solution for his problem? Thanks.
