Fibroid, Cyst On Ovary. Relative Died Of Ovarian Cancer. Should I Remove These?

In April I started having my period every other month. When I have it it's extremely heavy.my gyn sent me for a ultrasound and I have a 2cm fibroma and a 5cm cyst on my right ovary, gun says to have another ultrasound in six weeks. I'm 44 and concerned because my aunt on my father's side died from ovarian cancer. Should they remove these?

Thanks for writing to HCM

You didn't mentioned whether it is simple or complex cyst.
Complex cyst needs more caution.
Fibroma is small and it can be managed conservatively.
Your doctor has rightly suggested you for follow up USG for 5 cm right ovarian cyst.
There are also other markers like CA125 antigen for ovarian carcinoma. It can also be done.
