Feverish After Wisdom Tooth Extracted. Prescribed Antibiotics. Fever Persists. Reason?

Started to feel feverish-like Thursday night, 1 day after wisdom tooth had been extracted. Went to ER fearing a serious infection or complication from tooth extraction, but all well, just some fever= 101 degrees that comes and goes. I was prescribed some antibiotics for possible infection, but became very sick in my stomach and ended up at ER again where they did not find anything wrong. Monday and I am still feverish 99ish. What is going on?

Hello and welcome to hcm,

The post-extraction of wisdom tooth is usually associated with fever, headche, pain ,swelling etc.
The stomach ache is due to the reaction of antibiotics taken.
Avoid anxiety and stress.
Complete rest has to be takeen for 7-8 days.
To enhance wound healing, warm saline and betadine rinse can be done.
Rinse your mouth after every meals to prevent plaque accumulating at the socket.
Ice packs can be given.
Once the pus from the socket drains completely out, fever subsides.
Hope this helps.

hello there,

Extraction of wisdom tooth sometimes ends up with post operative complications as the procedure is difficult to operate and time consuming.

Fever ,inflammed tonsills , sore throat ,pain and swelling in the jaws are the common post operative symptoms of wisdom tooth extraction.

follow post operative instructions given by your dentist and complete the course of antibiotic and analgesics for 5 to 7 days .

Course of medicines with paracetamol will help you relieve the symptoms of pain and fever.

Avoid stress and take rest for atleast 3 days , drink lot of water and keep yourself hydrated.

i hope this helps ,

take care.
