Fever Followed By Red Swollen Gums And Lot Of Sores In The Mouth And Bottom Lip. Could It Be Herpes Virus Or Somethings Else?

Hi,
My five year old daughter has had a fever for over a week and on Thursday she had very red swollen gums. I took her to the Dr. on Friday and he didnt see any sores so he advised me to keep an eye on it. Then on Saturday and thru today she has experienced a lot of mouth sores inside her mouth and also on her bottom lip. I'm just wondering how to tell the difference between herpes virus and something else like hand foot and mouth. We are currently out of town and unable to take her back to the Dr.
Thank you for your time.

Hi. The fever is for over a week and developing sores now. Herpes will be always on one side of the body / mouth / lip, has small 2-3 mm lesion and are very very painful. Red swollen gums with lesions in the mouth and lip can be due to super-added infection which comes on due to reduced resistance of patient due to illness. Continue with the treatment as advised by your Doctor, better if you can call him.
