Felt exhausted, bad headaches, swollen tonsils, pressure in ears and sore throat. What is it?

I saw doctor on Monday as had felt exhausted clammy and had headache for 5 days - doc said tonsils were swollen and red but since I had no sore throat or ears he thought it was from fighting a bug. I think now it may have been tonsillitis starting as now more tired, headache, swollen neck glands under and side if chin , pressure on ears and sore throat?

ENT Specialist 's  Response

I have gone through your query regarding sore throat, headache and blockade in ear after your enlarge tonsils. you are actually suffering from acute tonsillopharyngitis with acute otitis media.

Development of your disease is as - Initially you were having acute tonsillitis which spreads to involve throat results as soreness and extends to ear via Eustachian tube (tubular connection between ear and throat) thus ear gets blocked. This is now named as Acute Tonsilopharyngitis with otitis media.

You are advice to under go following investigations-
(1) Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.
(2) Audiometery (Pure tone & Impedance)
(3) Blood- C.B.C, E.S.R., blood sugar.
(4) C.T.scan paranasal sinuses.

Lastly a thorough clinical examination is must by an E.N.T.specialist to establish final diagnosis by co-relating clinical findings with inferences of investigations and plan for treatment.

I wish now you got clarification of your query.

Hello dear...
The symptoms mentioned in your post suggests that you might be having Acute Tonsillitis.
Management consists of:
1. Gargle with warm salt water to relieve throat pain.
2. Analgesics like paracetamol
3. Antibiotics like amoxicillin to remove the causative organism of Tonsillitis.
4. For cases resistant to Amoxicillin, one can use preparation of Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin and clavulanic acid) like Augmentin 625 mg three times a day.
Otherwise, Azithromycin 500 mg once a day is taken.
