Fell, Hurted Shin, Burning Sensation, Numbness Pain. What Should I Do?

I fell off a step two weeks ago. I cut a finger and had stiches. I thought that was the worst of my injuries. I have since been to the Dr. for my shoulder. He took x rays and I have a separated shoulder . I am recovering slowing from that , but when I fell I hit my shin on the step and have bruising on my knee and my shin about 3/4 the way around my leg. The bruising is slowly clearing but there is a large lump on my shin that is very sore to the touch. The area just below the lump is numb and occasionally I get a burning sensation. Will the bump go away, and what about the numbness, and burning?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it appears that you might be having hematoma formed and having some tissue injury giving rise to swelling and numbness.
Nothing to worry, gradually it will be alright.
Apply ice pack 2-3 time a day for few days.
Take some anti-inflammatory medicines for 2-3 days.
Ok and take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the description, I suspect that you could have suffered a soft tissue Hematoma (blood clot) over the shin of tibia. This will generally resolve spontaneously within 2-3 weeks without any issues.

The general treatment guidelines are as follows -

- Protect the injured area from further injury by using a support or splint
- Rest the injured area and avoid activity for the first 48 to 72 hours.
- Ice packing the painful area for the first 48 to 72 hours after the injury. Apply ice wrapped in a damp towel to the injured area for 15 to 20 minutes every two to three hours during the day
- Use an elastic compression bandage around the injured area to limit any swelling and movement that could damage it further. It should be wrapped snugly around the affected area but not so tightly that it restricts blood flow.
- Keep the injured area raised and supported on a pillow to help reduce swelling.
- Use simple analgesics like aleve or advil as needed.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
