Hello,
It appears as though your wife has developed a crack in the nipple due to the hard suckling of the baby. You should get her checked by a gynecologist. If it is a fissure, she would need to use a nipple shield while feeding the baby and apply local ointment for healing in between feeds. Otherwise, she may develop an infection and a breast abscess. Please see that she cleans the nipple before and after the feed. If there is any infection, feeding from that side should be avoided until it heals. Hope your query is answered. Take care.

Hi dear,
In my view if your wife is having fungal infection of the nipples she should not be feeding the baby as the infection will be transmitted to the baby. Also, if she is having severe pain while feeding, than look for cracks in the nipples which are very common while feeding the baby.
If it is only the cracked nipple, do apply some ghee over it or consult the gynae for any emoluent cream for cracked nipple which will resolve the issue without any problem

Hello,
This is not a fungus infection as usually this don't develops severe pain.
As pain occurs during feeding so consult a surgeon and physical examination of nipples will find out the exact cause as mastitis or bruise ( abrasion ).
Take treatment according to situation.
Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks for discussing your problem with us.
The commonest cause of such pain is cracked nipples. Some general measures to combat this problem include:
Correct positioning during feeding ( She should put the whole areola (brown portion) in baby's mouth, rather then the nipple alone.
Express & apply some milk at the affected area when not feeding. This will act as a moisturizer & help in healing.
Do not stop breast feeding.
I am not sure what your doctor wanted to say by diagnosing fungi in nipples & why no treatment was suggested. I strongly recommend you should take second opinion from a qualified doctor before believing in this diagnosis.
Hope this clears your query.
Take care.
