Fatigue, Tired, Weight Gain, Hard And Rough Hair And Skin, Constipation. Thyroid Test Normal. Recommendation?

Hello, I have been experiencing symptoms of hypothyroidism since the past 6 months:
- fatigue, very tired even if I sleep properly everyday

- gaining weight - gained 12 pounds since 6 months, even though I am exercising regularly and eating healthy and I am not even able to lose weight no matter how hard I try

- Hair and skin have changed from being soft and normal to hard, rough and no matter what I try, my hair remains damaged with split ends

- Constipation : no matter how much I increase intake of fiber/water/bananas/flax seeds

- I always feel cold, even if it is 104 F , and I never sweat even if I am out in the sun

- Body aches never go away

- I'm becoming very forgetful and can't concentrate on my studies

- Severe menstrual cramps

- No sexual drive

- Severe perennial allergies that don't go away with Zyrtec/Allegra/Claritin

So I got myself tested for serum TSH and T4 and T3 ... results are:

Serum TSH : 3.4
Serum T3: 1.12
Serum T4: 8.17

I've visited 2 doctors and both said that my thyroid is perfectly fine.

But I know that it's NOT fine. I don't feel fine. And I didn't feel like this before 6 months.

I am now feeling embarrassed to go to another doctor because my family thinks that the doctors are right and that I'm just imagining things.

I am currently in 2nd year of med school. Can I take levothyroxine at starting dose of 25 mcg? I really want to stop feeling like I'm in a mental fog all day.

What do you recommend?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The above results are normal. It is possible that the use of supplemental thyroid medication may result in an excess of thyroid hormone and symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

It would not be wise to use it unless you are directed to do so by your doctor.

You may want to revisit your doctor to see if there are any other causes for your symptoms, you may consider a electrolyte panel of tests because abnormalities of electrolytes can be associated with some of the symptoms that you describe.

I hope this helps
