Fall Causing Severed Tibial Nerve Medial Side Of Foot. Advised Surgery Or Giving Time To Heal On Its Own. Suggestions?

severed tibial nerve medial side of foot from tip of surfboard fin impact 5 wks ago. Specialists in Australia want to operate to try reattach the nerve tube. Another specialist abroad where i did the injury said to give the nerve 2 months to heal on its own first. Can the nerve attach on its own ? Do i give it time, or go for the operation next week

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. Nerve conduction study and / or clinical examination will help in decision. If only a contusion, the nerve may heal. If transected , better to go for surgery as the time taken for recovery is long in any nerve.
