All the symptoms she is experiencing are related to this condition. The medications prescribed are also in accordance to this. But, what is the most important point in treatment of this condition is the antibiotic used. A urine analysis is usually conducted to confirm the presence of an infection, this should be followed by a urine culture examination. The urine culture test helps in confirming the presence of the infection and also provides information on the most suitable antibiotic that can be used to treat the infection. Different individuals are resistant or susceptible to different antibiotics, which is why, if one antibiotic helps/works in one individual it is not necessary for the same antibiotic to work in another. This is why, there is a possibility that your wife could be resistant to the prescribed antibiotic (Uritop-SR; which is nitrofurantoin). Thus my advise would be to visit your doctor and request for a urine culture examination and a prompt change in the antibiotic used.
