Experiencing Ear Pain & Bump Above The Jawline & On Eyebrow

felt a pain basically on my ear and then a few days later I noticed a bump under my skin right above my jaw line and under my ear. I also have a painful bump on my eyebrow that was red and swollen. I thought it was an ingrown hair or something but now I think it is related to the bump under my ear. I went to see a doc and he gave me an antibiotic . but the bump under my ear is not going away and my eyebrow is getting worse and hurts more, what is this and what should i do???

Hello,

I can understand your concern and I also agree that they seem to be the part of the same problem as they are both occured at the same time and getting worse at the same rate. As the swellings are sore and hurting, it seems that are due to some infection only and should have been healed with the antibiotic course. Now, in your case, it may be the situation that higher antibiotics might be needed as the antibiotics you have taken might not be effective against the bacteria you have been infected with.

It would have been helpful if you had mentioned the group of antibiotics you have taken. However, now before prescribing any medicines, I would advise you to get a blood test to determine complete blood count. It will help to decide what kind of infection you are suffering from.

In addition, you can consult a dermatologist for the physical examination of the swellings. I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if you have further questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
