Excessive Pain, Spine Cracks. Synvisc Injections, Partial Or Total Knee Replacement. Which Is The Better Alternative?

What is the benefit in having synvisc injections rather than a partial or total knee replacement? Especially if the pain will just come back and the cause of the pain has not been taken care of.... one more question- is it normal when you turn over in bed at night for your spine to crack and wake you up? Sometimes it is a little painful and sometimes not.,

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us,

Regarding your first query about knee pain
I do not recommend synvisc injections in all cases with osteoarthritis if the knee. As you rightly said, It does solve the pain permanently and primary cause is not been taken care of.
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of the joints where the cartilage wears out and causes pain on friction.
Permanent solution to this can only be knee replacement surgery (Partial or total will depend on amount of joint involved).
Synvisc injections I recommend only in patients who are not ready for surgery and need to buy time either because they are scared of surgery or because they cant afford it.

Now your second query
Is normal for your spine to crack when you turn in bed and pain is usually muscular!! dont worry for that

I hope this information will clear your doubt on synvisc injections

If you have any further queries in this regard, feel free to contact me.

Regards,
