Endoscopy, Smoking, Effect Of Smoking After Endoscopy

Hi~ I just had an endoscopy yesterday and they took a tissue sample for a biopsy . They told me not to eat/drink for an hour afterwards, but they didn t mention smoking... My question is, is it ok to smoke right after an endoscopy? If not, then how long should I wait? And what happens if I DID smoke after the endoscopy?? Thank you for your time..

Hello friend.

Welcome to HCM.
It is a hard and fast rule that smoking is always injurious to health whatever time it is done .
When you are already in trouble due to sickness or surgery, and you smoke your body has to fight at two front so you can imagine what will happen to you.
So my good advice is not to smoke now and never.

Get well soon

Good luck

General & Family Physician Dr. Chakravarthy Mazumdar's  Response
Hi,

There are no specific instruction about smoking after an endoscopic procedure. I suggest you to avoid smoking completely with the help of a professional. It can lead to gut cancer and precipitate more digestive problems in future.

Thanks
