Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
Metformin is an anti-diabetic medication which is also frequently prescribed for irregular cycles caused due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It doesn't have a direct effect of arresting menstrual periods.
If Metformin is causing you other side effects, then you should discuss with your doctor regarding a change of medication. You also need to have a detailed gynaecological assessment to find out the cause of your irregular periods / excessive bleeding. There are other medication - like hormonal tablets which can stop excessive bleeding and regularize your cycles. So, please see a gynecologist for further evaluation and treatment.
Wish you all the best.
