Ear Infections, Cold, Itching. Used Silicon Putty. Is It A Result Of Excessive Swimming?

My 14 year old son is a swimmer who is the water nearly every morning and afternoon. He does suffer from ear infections. Have recently been to a specialist who has put him on avamys to help clear his nose whic the doctor thinks will also clear his ears . However last weekend he dived into surf and said his ear felt like a plastic bag being pierced and air coming slowly and painfully..Aqua ear made him scream. his ear fills full and hurts. Local doctor said he has outer ear infection and put him on ciproxin. 2 days later still feels full and hurts and is itchy...he also has a bit of a cold. He says when he puts ciproxin in his ear it hurts and he can taste it in his mouth...is this normal?? We plugged his ear with silicon putty and he tried to do swim training but he said really hurts when he goes under water. He has a big competition this weekend ...any suggestions as to how he can keep training and get better quickly. Do you think that something is wrong because ciproxin hurts and he can taste it??

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello
If he can taste the ear drops that indicates there is perforation in his ear drums. I would advise strictly not to swim. This could be dangerous and even more if he dives, because the balance organ is there in ears and which may get stimulated by the cold water and there could be severe vertigo.
you need to change antibiotic you can take amoxicillin with clavulinic acid orally, in addition get ENT consultation done.
Avoid water entering his ears as the infection will not get controlled until the ears are dry.
In doubt do reply
