Dear Carol,

Sometimes post-op patients do loose appetite for a while. It takes time but in a while they get it back, Sometimes it is also to do with physical activity. Remember since he is post op he would be lying in bed all the time and hence getting very little physical activity and hence his appetite would also be less. Sometimes medications also alter the appetite. In all cases as long as his nutrition is maintained and he is not lossing weight, I wouldn't worry much. Start him off on some protein powders / shakes between meals , and ask him to take it as if it is medications so that his nutrition is maintained.

Hope this helps Carol.

Regards
