Done Burr Hole Surgery For Subdural Hematoma. CT Scan Showed Residual Fluid. Safe To Fly?
On August the 12th of this year I had burr hole surgery for chronic subdural haematoma, I was released from hospital on the third day after the operation. On the 11th September I had a further ct scan which showed I still had some residual fluid. I am due to fly on the 21st October, the flight will last 4.5 hours, am I safe to fly? Hi,
Each airline has it's own regulations regarding flying after surgery so you should check these. I would consider it would be safe for you to fly at this stage after your surgery even considering the CT scan findings. You should also check with your neurosurgeon.
In general it is advisable to take precautions against DVTs when flying. I suggest you drink plenty of water, walk around when possible and wear compression stockings during and for 24 hours after your flight.
