Done HIV Test After Sexual Intercourse. What Is The Interpretation?

i hope you would not consider this as stupid, but im writing you from turkey so im sorry about the grammer . sometime ago, 7 months after my suspicious intercourse i had an hiv test. but they gave the report through internet so i couldnt meet with any doctor about it. test result was just this: ANTI HIV 1-2 (ELISA) 0.25 positive. what does this mean? why does it say positive? do i have HIV then? it put me into very bad depression. thank you so much. and if u can tell what should i do from now on, would be really nice. Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

If you are not infected with HIV, the test report would have come as either non-reactive or Negative. Then it means that you are HIV free. HIV positive means that there is a possibility that you might have infected with HIV. You need not bother about the cut off value as 0.25.
It has to be verified with further test whether this positive result is correct or not as there is a false positive result. It may be verified with different rapid test or Western blot test or DNA PCR or P24 antigen test.
There are very good treatment available for HIV like any other disease and one can live with this medicine comfortably and decently like any body else who are not having HIV.
