Does Vaginal Hysterectomy Not Possible Due To Large Uterus?
Hello, I have 3 fibroid. One is 17 cm and the other two are about 6 cm. My doctor says that vaginal surgery is not an option due to the size of my uterus. I am scheduled to have an abdominal hysterectomy. Is it true that due to a large uterus at vaginal surgery is not an option?
In case of big fibroids it is not possible to remove the uterus from the vagina. The risk involved in doing this and possibility of injury to the bladder, rectum and intestine are high. Also the blood loss will be more as it will take a lot of time. The fibroid is 17 cm so it will not come out from the vagina. Even a laparoscopy may be difficult as there will be problems in handling the instruments as fibroids will obstruct the view.
So a safer approach is abdominal. Nowadays it can be done from a bikini incision and also use of subcuticular stitches produces minimal scars in most cases.
So please get it done abdominally as it will be relatively quicker and safer.
My best wishes are with you for a safe surgery and speedy recovery.
